San Diego! Starr and Barclay on Taxpayer Paid for Travel

Because there is always cash for administrators and Board of Education members to travel in the MCPS Operating Budget.  Money for classroom teachers? Oh, that's not available.  But, money for limos, airfare, restaurant meals, hotel and conference fees are always readily available.

Parents, please keep sending in classroom supplies.  Your donations keep the MCPS travel budget safe.

Superintendent Joshua Starr and Board of Education President Christopher Barclay are Tweeting today with the hastag #nsbaconf. What other BOE members and BOE staff are in San Diego today?

  3. "Programs are progress, but policy is power"?!?!?!?

I've heard some taglines that have made me shake my head, and some that have made me weep, but this goes on the list of lines that make me want to hurl. And Facepalm.

  4. Who pockets the frequent flyer miles? Whatever happened to the Madison Avenue/GE slogan, "Progress is our most important product."

  5. If we are mentioning new policy and power, why don’t we discuss efforts to strengthen the collaboration among professionals and parents of children with disabilities. Lets talk about not interfering with the parents’ protective capacity and the indispensable role of the parents and the wider community. Indeed, it is clear that the resources of the school system alone cannot address the needs of children with multiple problems . Service delivery is a matter of public policy and a change in practice is needed by MCPS to effect meaningful change. Proper direction of resources, special training, rational decisions, and recognition of the present ingrained ways of thinking. Expanded responsiveness and elimination of punitive response by blaming the parents would be helpful. We are overdue for reasoned debate and overly concerned with fiscal issues that are distorting putting the best interests of the children first. So, MCPS needs to rebalance the tension present, especially with the IEP and due process disputes.
