Waring Station Neighbors Speak Out After Being Silenced

On February 8, 2011 an Agenda Item was added to the Board of Education meeting to vote on an Architect to develop a Feasibility Study for the Waring Station school site in Germantown.

Board of Education Policy FAA calls for a Site Selection Committee to be convened when a school site is being considered. Board Policy calls for community involvement in the Site Selection Committee.

But the steps outlined in Policy FAA for selecting a school site were skipped, and on February 7, 2011 the Board of Education was ready to approve an Architect for this new school project. An architect that was selected by an Architect Selection Committee.

Community members wanted to speak to the Board in Public Comment prior to the vote on this Agenda Item.

But, alas, the Board of Education cut out Public Comment from the Agenda for the February 8, 2011, Board of Education meeting. No two minutes time slots were available for the public.

Silenced at the Board of Education meeting, Waring Station community members have taken to the Internet and started a blog and a Facebook page to make their comments on this project public.
