This is what it looks like when a Board of Education actually pays attention to how public school funds are spent.
Here is the Flint, Michigan Board of Education questioning the spending of $10,000 in consulting fees.
This is the exact same consultant that is before the MCPS Board of Education today.
Flint is one of the school systems that is listed as a client on the Perry (consultant at MCPS BOE retreat today) website.
December 11, 2012: FLINT, MI -- A roughly $10,000 price tag for consulting and other work from an outside company had Flint school board members Tuesday upset that the services were provided without board approval and without a contract.http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2012/12/flint_school_board_members_que.html
Board members were also concerned because the administration approved the work after the board turned down a larger request to go into a contract with Perry and Associates, a Massachusetts-based firm that has done curriculum planning and other work for the district in the past.
The board's attorney and chief financial officer pointed out that the total for the two invoices was below the $22,000 maximum that can be spent without prior board approval.
Outgoing Superintendent Linda Thompson said the work was for facilitation and "setting goals for the year."
