Much about nothing. This exam has a five year expected life and then it will join a long the list of dead tests. That is the history of Accountability in Education. The moment there is enough data to draw a trend line the measure is denounced and scrapped.
CRT's, Functional Exam's, MSPAP, CTBS, MSA's, HSA's, Modified This and Alternative that. All were the answer, later to be denounced and killed off.
The issue is that our Educrats don't want to be accountable, but desperately want to look like they are.
The thing that is different this time around is the incredible amount of behind-the-scenes money and influence involved in the creation of both Common Core and the related tests (not just PARCC but also SBAC). I have a sinking feeling the pushback will be much harder from the Feds this time.
The good news is that there is a much more concerted grassroots effort than there has ever been about the testing burden and reality; we're one of a lot more MCPS families whose kids are not taking PARCC (last year I only know of one other family that refused the MSA's).
