A majority of Maryland voters continue to support a post-Labor Day start for public schools
A majority of Maryland voters continue to support a post-Labor Day
start for public schools, and they appear to not care that it came as
the result of a controversial executive order mandating the change.
That’s the finding of a poll released Monday by the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center at Goucher College.
Roughly 68 percent of the 668 Marylanders asked said they support a longer summer that delays the start of schools in the state until after Labor Day. The latest finding is within the margin of error to a 2014 poll that found 71 percent of people favored the later start.
“Public opinion really hasn’t shifted,” said Mileah Kromer, a political science professor and director of the poll. “I just wonder politically if this is a battle that Democrats in the legislature who oppose this want to have? I know there’s going to be push back. It’s a tough narrative that the public wants it.”
But not all Democrats oppose the effort. Former Gov. Martin O’Malley signed a petition to change school start date...

Why bid when you are going to get the contract anyway?

WUSA9: Car Totaled After Being Hit by MCPS School Bus
It was two weeks ago when that MCPS school bus hit Augenbaum's car,
which was parallel parked in front of his home on Arcola Avenue in
Silver Spring. The car hasn't moved since.
"The county told me they won't remove the destroyed car, that it's my responsibility to move the car and they're deducting their estimated salvage value of the car from what they're going to pay me," said Augenbaum.
Montgomery County offered to pay about $12,000 for the car. Augenbaum insists it was worth $15,000. His insurance company has yet to make a move, waiting for the county to step up.
"In the meantime, I don't have a car, I can't afford to buy another car, I can't fix this one, I can't replace it," said Augenbaum.

Parents question delay in probe of alleged molestation of child on PG school bus
The parents of a preschool student in Prince George’s County said
Tuesday that county officials recently informed them of an investigation
into allegations that a bus aide molested their 4-year-old son last
November, and they said they don’t understand why it took so long to
look into the alleged abuse.
Child Protective Services contacted the family last month, seeking help in identifying a boy believed to be their son in a still image from a video that apparently was made in November. The parents said CPS officials told them the video showed a bus aide having inappropriate contact with the child inside a school bus...
