Pearson to MCPS - All your content belongs to us

Opinions On Open

Open writings on open education, open technology, open governance, and the general state of open affairs.
...However, the Pearson deal gives the publisher complete control of the content–probably not what Duncan had in mind. It now seems that in Montgomery County, public funded education content will be privately owned and controlled by a massive publishing giant.

  3. @ anon 9:09 - That's not the language of the contract. That's the Washington Post spin.

In order for Pearson to show of the product in the classrooms, MCPS will have to be using it. In order for Pearson to make sales based on MCPS' use, MCPS will have to really be using it.

And, in order for MCPS to use the product, MCPS will have to purchase it.

If MCPS doesn't buy it and use it, Pearson won't make sales based on MCPS "brand" and MCPS won't get royalties.

The heart of the deal is that MCPS has to use the product.
