Interesting however that when ranking the school districts by "Advanced only" MCPS ranked 5th.

Students are pushed into higher level math far sooner than their readiness. I work in an elementary in a community with about 30% poverty. It's shocking how many students in 5th grade are still counting on their fingers and don't know how to monitor their answers for making sense. i.e. recent example in 4th grade: 10-5=50
ReplyDeleteThe student read her answer as written, but she wasn't monitoring for making sense! I see this far too often.
MCPS Parent and Teacher
To MCPS Parent and Teacher: I think that students are pushed into higher level math before they are ready so that Jerry Weast can report to his media sycophants that he has X percent of students in "higher level math". It's all about improving numbers on his Seven Keys, and "looking good." The question for me is why don't more teachers speak up?
