Support Health, Safety and Equity for Maryland School Children - BlastRoots

Support HB 1462, Task Force to Study a Later Starting Time for Maryland Public Schools, because it’s time to begin the conversation about school start times in Maryland.

Many Maryland high schools start shortly after 7 a.m., with bus runs as early as 5:45 a.m. These very early hours do not allow students to get the sleep they need. Many compelling studies have shown that 70% of adolescents do not get enough sleep. Early school starts have also been linked to increased sleep deprivation, which impacts the health, safety and equity of our children.

By passing HB 1462 we can start looking seriously at ways to ensure safe, healthy, equitable school hours for all Maryland's children and keep our schools #1 in the nation.
