What the Master Plan Really Says about Brickyard Road MS Site

At today's Board of Education meeting reference was made to the County Master Plan statement for the Brickyard Middle School site.

The Master Plan says, "If the Board of Education determines that existing sites are not needed for schools..."

That's the first step. The Board must first determine that a school site is not needed for schools before the Master Plan contingencies are considered.

The Board of Education has not determined that the Brickyard Middle School site is "not needed for schools".  In  fact, when this issue was before the Board of Education in 2004, the site was specifically kept in the MCPS inventory of available school sites.

The Brickyard Middle School site has not been declared surplus to the needs of public school children.
